Eric Ogden is a qualified Naval Architect and Marine Surveyor. He has over 35 years of experience of the international marine industry. After studying yacht design and working a few years in the design offices of French and English boatbuilding companies, he was recruited by Baltek Corporation as Technical Director -Marine for the European market. For several years he provided technical assistance, material specifications and laminate suggestions to many of the major boat builders and Naval Architects in Europe. It gives him a unique insight into the boatbuilding industry.

Since 1985, he has been designing, building and surveying sailing and motor yachts up to 70 m, including several Maxis, Twelve-Meters and International America's Cup Class yachts. He has an extensive knowledge of the Bureau Veritas, Lloyd's Register and ABS rules for building and classing Yachts and Small Craft. His consulting work has included a wide range of construction and refit projects of sailing and motor yachts, fast patrol craft and passenger vessels .

He has been involved in several French America's Cup Challenges as Project/Technical Manager in charge of design coordination and building supervision. In 1989, he has played an important role in the formulation of the new I.A.C.C. Rule and has been in charge of the design and building programmes of the first I.A.C.C. yacht built in the world. In 1993, he has surveyed Il Moro di Venezia V, the 1992 America's Cup Challenger.

In France, Eric Ogden is registered as an Expert with the Court of Appeal of Aix en Provence and he is recommended by CESAM, the French Marine Underwriters Committee, to carry out condition and damage surveys. Since 2003, he has been the President of the Chambre Nationale des Experts Maritime Plaisance (CNEMP). He is a member of The Yacht Designers and Surveyors Association (YDSA), The Society of Consulting Marine Engineers and Ship Surveyors (SCMS), The Royal Institution of Naval Architects (RINA), The Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME) and The Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors (SAMS) He is an Authorised Surveyor to carry out compliance examinations under the UK MCA Codes of Practice for Small Commercial Vessels under 24 m in load line length and an RYA and YDSA and an approved Tonnage Measurer for all crafts up to 24 m. He is an American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC) Certified Technician for Marine Electrical Systems, Marine Corrosion and Diesel Engines. In November 2000, Eric Ogden was awarded the YDSA Leslie Oliver Trophy for the Surveyor of the Year.

During all these years, he has been inspecting vessels of all types and has attended many international conferences on naval architecture, boatbuilding and surveying. He has written many technical articles for various yachting magazines. He is a member of Yacht Club de France and Yacht Club de Monaco, and he has been sailing since childhood on various boats, most recently on superyachts and maxis. He lives in Biot, near Antibes, on the French Riviera. His work has led him to travel extensively throughout Europe, the U.S and the Carribean.
